Recent fights

Lucian Bute:  The loss to Bute was a great disappointment to Sakio because he new he could have done so much better that night. Not to take anything away from Bute, he is a very smart fighter and adapted to Sakio’s style quickly and had the answers for Sakio’s power and determination. In retrospect this loss could prove to be a win for Sakio, as it gave him the opportunity to try out for the third series of the U.S reality boxing television show “The Contender”.

Andre Thysse: A tough 12 round regional title fight (IBF Australasian Super Middleweight title) albeit where Sakio won every round. Thysse has never been on the canvas during his career and lived up to his tough reputation.

Dechapon Suwannalert: KO round 2 Sakio proved his world class ability with this tough Thai who had gone the distance with both Jamie Pittman and Daniel Lovett, two of Australia’s best super middleweights.

Marcus Beyer: WBC Super Middleweight Title: Sakio took the opportunity to fight the German champion for the WBC Super Middleweight world title in Germany in May 2005. After an accidental head clash in round 4 the doctor ruled Beyer unable to continue. Under WBC rules the bout was declared a technical draw. Sakio was awarded all 4 rounds on one judges score card, and the stoppage was considered controversial.
